Delta and American Airlines have round-trip flights from Houston (IAH/HOU) to Tokyo (NRT/HND) starting at $590 with a connection. Flights midweek from October to March. No Weekends. Big blackout date range; December 7th to January 10th.

The cheapest fares leave and return on Tuesday or Wednesday. Other days of the week price about +30 more.

Note: Pay attention to your arrival and departing airport. The cheapest fares may require flying into NRT, and returning out of HND.

We recommend the following hotels, we’ve personally stayed in them and like them:

  • Hotel Niwa Tokyo – Really nice place for the cost, you can usually find it for about $150 a night.
  • APA Hotel Hanzomon Hirakawacho – Small room, but really cheap. You can sometimes find it for less than $100 a night. Good if you’re traveling alone. Not so good if you’re trying to share a tiny bed.
  • Grand Hyatt Tokyo – Expensive, but if you have Hyatt points it’s worthwhile to use them here. Really nice place in Roppongi Hills.
  • Hotel Monterey Hanzomon – My overall favorite, I can usually find it for about $100 a night, if you use the coupon codes for CheapTickets, you can usually get it for less than $85 a night. The rooms are small, but if you book the two bed twin room, it’s a lot of space for the price.

If you plan on booking a hotel, use our travel coupon codes to save up to 15% to 20% off. Alternatively, you may be able to save the most money by booking your trip as a Flight + Hotel package on Priceline, Orbitz, or Travelocity.

Note: OTAs such as Travelocity and Priceline allow free cancellation without penalty within 24-hours after purchase. As deals sell-out or expire quickly, this policy will allow you to “lock-in” the cheap fare while you sort out a plan. Just keep in mind that after 24-hours, you will not be able to cancel without the regular penalty. On Travelocity, you can easily see if your ticket allows a free cancellation, just look for “FREE Cancellation” next to the button to purchase the ticket.

Most airlines also offer 24-hour free cancellation with varying policies. For example American Airlines allows you to “Hold” a ticket before payment for 24-hours but once you pay for it you can’t cancel without a change fee or penalty, even if it was purchased less than 24-hours ago.
