Beginning August 4, 2013, Southwest will inaugurate new nonstop service between Houston (HOU) and Washington, DC (DCA). To commemorate this event they’re having a double points promotion for flights on that route for the rest of this year. That means you will receive 24 points (instead of the standard 12 points) per dollar spent on Business Select® Fares, 20 points (instead of ten points) per dollar spent on Anytime Fares, and 12 points (instead of six points) per dollar spent on Wanna Get Away® Fares.
Double points promotions such as this are a great way to earn points towards free travel. Even if you’re not sure if you’re going to fly out to the Washington, DC area this year, you should register anyway because you will not be able to take advantage of this promotion if you have not registered your account by August 4, 2013.
New routes = more competition = lower prices, so this is good news for Houston.
