There are Nonstop, round-trip flights available from Los Angeles (LAX) to Honolulu (HNL), Maui (OGG), and Kona (KOA) for $398 on many major carriers right now. It’s possible to re-position into Los Angeles (LAX) from Houston (IAH / HOU) on most TUE/WED in January to early-March for $108-$113 via United or Southwest Airlines. If you combine these two separate round-trip tickets, you can get from Houston to Hawaii (HNL / OGG / KOA) for $510 with a connection in Los Angeles.
Read the booking instructions carefully. If you’re not familiar with how to string two separate round-trips together, then you should pass on this deal. Failure to properly handle baggage and flight times can leave you in a really bad spot if you don’t know what you’re doing.

This looks likes American Airlines response to the United sale to Sydney and Melbourne out of Dallas that ended earlier today.
Note: The outbound flight has a layover that is a bit longer than I like. 4 hours and 50 mins, but the price is the lowest I’ve seen it.
