Nonstop flights are usually priced at a premium for these routes, but they’re being sold for less than the flights with stops.

American Airlines and US Airways are offering great round-trip flights from Houston to multiple destinations in the Caribbean from $201! Those of you who missed out on this last month now have a chance to get in on some cheap airfare to awesome destinations.

The Caribbean is obviously on sale right now due to inexpensive airfare being offered by American Airlines. Cheap round-trip flights from Houston (IAH) to Grand Cayman (GCM) are about $274. This route may require overnight stopovers in Miami (MIA). Adjust your days accordingly if this is a problem for you. Or, just enjoy the change up and think of it as a free stopover in Miami (MIA), because technically it is.

A few of you have asked me how to avoid the long Miami stopovers on the American Airlines Caribbean airfare sale. During the start of the sale, there wasn’t a discount fare basis that would route around it for a few of these destinations, but now there’s one that will route via Charlotte (CLT) and another that routes through Miami (MIA). It is now possible to avoid the overnight stopovers in Miami from Houston to Punta Cana, Grand Cayman, Antigua, St. Lucia and Montego Bay.

[08/01/2014 @ 4:44 PM] It appears that American Airlines and US Airways have ended their sale. Prices have increased to all destinations listed in this post by about $150.

I noticed that the price on Orbitz for the Houston (IAH) to Grand Cayman (GCM) flight was a bit higher than the flight being offered on American Airlines. I believe that this would make for a valid claim on Orbitz’s “Best price Guarantee”.
What this means is that you should be eligible for a credit of $50 to $200 dollars if you book your flight on Orbitz, and then provide a link to the same flight, same booking class, and dates being offered elsewhere for $5 or more cheaper.
Update: I don’t think Orbitz will honor this. From what I can tell, the reason why the price is $7 higher on Orbitz than American Airlines is that Orbitz charges a fee for mixed airline itineraries. It also explains why this fare isn’t bookable on American Airlines’ website without some massaging via Google Flights.
