Southwest Airlines has round-trip flights from Houston (HOU) to San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) for $198, NONSTOP. Flights from November to February.
You may want to book this as a one-way into Liberia (LIR) with a one-way out of San Jose (SJO). Doing it this way will get you closer to the coast and will allow you to see more of the country without needing to loop-back to your original airport. Total will end up being about $237 for both one-ways.

To celebrate the opening of their new international routes, Southwest Airlines is offering NONSTOP flights from Houston (HOU) to San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) starting at $255, round-trip. Flights from October 15 to February.
Liberia (LIR) is also part of this sale, with NONSTOP round-trips starting at $304.
US Airways has round-trip flights from Austin (AUS) to San Jose (SJC) for $189. Route has a short layover in Phoenix (PHX) each direction.

Delta has flights from Austin (AUS) to Oakland (OAK) or San Jose (SJC) at $200 round-trip with 1-stop. Those of you that weren’t able to get in on the deal a few days ago to San Francisco for $227 now have another shot at getting out there. Getting to San Francisco from Oakland (OAK) airport is pretty trivial. Jump on the BART.
