Flights to Japan have been higher than what they have been the past few years.

There are also flights to Osaka available for a similar price, but those have long connection times, or multiple stops. It will probably be cheaper easier to take the Tokyo flight then do the transfer by Shinkansen.

This is a good price for NONSTOP flights which usually price in the $2200-$2500 range.

Getting to Japan is more expensive than it was pre-pandemic, but the yen is currently trading at 149 per dollar, which should mean that hotels, goods, and services in Japan will be cheaper due to the exchange rate. The last NONSTOP deal to Tokyo that we mentioned on the blog was on September 30, 2018 for $845, same carriers.

COVID restrictions are still in place but this may be worthwhile for the dates later this year and next year. Book in the Main Economy (not basic) fare class for free changes.

American is no longer allowing free changes for Basic Economy fares. They still allow free changes for Main Cabin and higher classes.
