Note: We recently featured a deal to Tokyo (NRT/HND) for $562 with this carrier last month. Flying into HND will save you about $40 in train-fares and about 90 minutes of travel time if you’re trying to get to Tokyo.

Note: We’ve seen this on sale last April for cheaper. There is a good chance that this price will continue to drop. If you book this fare and the price drops, you should be able to cancel within 24-hours after your purchase on most booking sites.
Warning: Pay attention to the departing and returning airports. The cheapest fares may arrive in HND and depart from NRT or vice versa.

United and American Airlines have round-trip flights from Houston (IAH) to Tokyo (NRT) for $602 with a connection. Cheapest flights are midweek from April to early-May. For United flights, you must re-direct to United’s website from Google Flights, it is not available directly on any OTA or United’s website. For AA flights, you can book it on most websites normally.

American Airlines is offering round-trip flights from Houston (IAH / HOU) to Tokyo (NRT), Beijing (PEK), and Shanghai (SHA) starting at $621. Flights August to December. This sale seems to be in retaliation to the United sale out of Dallas (DFW) to the same destinations.
Hmm. Austin to Hong Kong or Tokyo, which to choose? Why not Hong Kong and Tokyo to Osaka and Kyoto for $947 + $148 rail for the 2015 cherry blossom season?

If you’re going to drop about $1000 on airfare to Asia you should probably just do this instead.
Fly from Houston to Tokyo, then take the Shinkansen (Japan’s high-speed bullet train) to Kyoto and Osaka then catch a flight to Jakarta, hang out there for a while before catching a flight to check out Singapore, eat a chili-crab, then finally, after all of that, get on a plane back home to Houston for $1258 flights + $148 rail.
This itinerary makes good use of the fare’s free open-jaw and paid-stopover.

Round-trip flights are going for $910 on to either Tokyo (NRT / HND) or Osaka (KIX) which is a pretty good price when you consider that United has the same route priced at an astronomical $1884 for a 1-stop.
